The product is suitable for the determination of larvae, pupae and male imagines of currently 57 Culicid species of Central and Western Europe. The focus was placed on the determinability of aquatic stages of this dipteran family, but due to the difficulty of identifying pupal stages down to species level, male imagines were included in the key in order to determine mature pupae based on the hypopygium. Data on saprobic classification and longitudinal zonation in running waters were replaced by data on habitat preference and vector competence. New species were added to the product in the new version 3.0.
